Good Things Worth Waiting For

A Long-Term Investment That Built a Stronger Community

Wesley Family Services believes strong communities are built through long-term investment in people. Their partnership with the Pennsylvania Solar Center became one part of a much larger vision: creating stable housing, expanding support services, and ensuring resources are directed where they matter most — improving lives.

Wesley Family Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality behavioral healthcare services, support programs, and now, affordable housing.

To be able to offer these services and programs, leadership recognized the importance of creating a model that could remain sustainable for years to come.

Rather than focusing only on short-term solutions, the organization sought ways to reduce operational strain and create lasting stability that would allow them to continually reinvest in residents, staff, and community programs.

“By working with PA Solar Center on a solar installation project, we not only reduced our reliance on costly traditional utilities but also freed up funds to reinvest directly into our mission and community.”

The partnership with the PA Solar Center aligned with that mission because it supported Wesley’s broader goal of becoming more effective, sustainable, and innovative in the way it serves the community.

CEO Doug Muetzel emphasized that “every decision Wesley makes is rooted in the organization’s mission to provide transformational care for children, adults, and families.”

That impact is deeply personal for residents like Sandy, a tenant at Pioneer Apartments at Wesley. After previously living in unsafe conditions affected by black mold, she now has a stable home where she feels safe, comfortable, and hopeful about the future. Her story reflects the larger purpose behind Wesley’s work: creating environments where people can rebuild their lives with dignity.

For Wesley, this investment was never simply about energy. Muetzel shared, “It was about creating safe, healthy, and affordable places for people to live.”

The partnership between Wesley Family Services and the Pennsylvania Solar Center was built on shared values and a mutual commitment to strengthening communities from within.

Wesley specifically sought partners who understood their mission, respected the complexity of their work, and were committed to seeing projects through long term.

Together, the organizations are helping demonstrate what community investment can look like when people remain the priority.

The long-term goal is not simply operational savings, but building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities where organizations have the resources to continue serving future generations.
